Rise From Your Grave!

Trying to get back into the painting game after a bit of a drought! I've failed miserably at the last two Painting Challenges run by Just John on the Oldhammer forum so I figured it was time to pull my finger out!

Happily, half the reason for not painting much this past couple of months has been the amount of games I've played with actual people! This little lot I hope to have ready for Blog-Con in November - another great event being held at Foundry.

I suppose they'll be good for a bit of a Halloween theme too.

This chap, Tom Meier's superb Zombie Dragon, is one I'm really looking forward to - he needs a bit more filling with miliput yet and I'd love to find a rider for him one day - just like the one that featured in WD142.

  1. Wow that is quite the horde. I've not seen a troop of skeleton cavalry that size. Kudos.
"RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!" I do so love Altered Beast references.

    1. Cheers - I'll probably split them into two units of 10 so they can be deployed on both flanks, or pose a real threat on one flank. Then again they do look pretty scary all together...

Me and my old mate must have wasted half our childhood playing that game on his Megadrive! For the uninitiated check this out.

  2. Very exciting! I was going to kick off painting my undead army this month, figuring that companies of animated corpses and wraiths trooping around would be very appropriate to the Halloweeny season, but I've been sidetracked somewhat by Ernie's seductive Orctober concept. Still hope to get a company of Skeletons off the painting table by the end of the month, though! Good luck with you horde! Looking forward to seeing that lovely troop of skeleton horsemen painted up and chasing Orcs around your game table!

    1. Thanks Mouse - I've been admiring your recent Goblinoid posts and the great narrative background you come up for them. I should add Narchukk in with the other Orcs of character in my Orctober post - knew I'd seen another good example somewhere else but couldn't remember where.

Looking forward to your Deadites and their story!

    1. Getting there slowly!

Got distracted from painting by the Carrion last night - they're now stripped and assembled. Bit of miliput work for them and the dragon this evening...

  4. Looking good. Oddly, I've been looking out of the corner of my eye at my own undead recently too. That rider you're after is from the MM50 marauder undead range.

    1. Cheers Mr S. - must be the season of the Witch...

MM50 - off to ebay I go, or is that just deeply unoriginal?!

    2. You could try the oldhammer trade area? He's not a common mini, but not a rarity either.

    3. Sounds like a plan.

Just spent a most enjoyable evening filling in gaps and basing the Dragon - he may well get some paint on him before I track down a rider, just to get him in action by the end of the month!

  5. Fantastic! They look great as they are right now :)
That zombie dragon is one of my favorite dragons. Been thinking to paint it for quite some time but never got round to it yet. Looking forward to see you version of it.
    Thx/Hans

    1. Cheers Don - kind of you to say. Been admiring your chaos stuff for some time!

Nearly done with the Skellies - just need to take a few pics and finish off the last few warriors and 11 horsemen. The Dragon is base coated with basic ink washes done - next up is highlighting all the detail of the rotten flesh and entrails hanging out...

I've also since stripped and undercoated 3 Carrion so the horde is looking pretty good!

Got a load of blogging to do before I retreat to the internet free zone that is the Lake District for a few days R&R so hopefully they might feature later on today.
