Would this be Tournament legal...?

So the dust settles on another LPL - season 7 this time and the third year I have entered. It certainly proved to be a productive one and I definitely think I upped my game in terms of the volume of minis I painted up - often exceeding the minimum of five required to make up a team. I was dogged with photography problems in the earlier rounds as the ancient 2 megapixel camera I was using, in place of the nice new one we bought and promptly left at my parent's house, struggled to deliver the crisp detail I was after.

It was the first time I'd ever included a large monster like the Tortoise tanks and its Goblin crew. Not sure whether or not I'd painted cavalry for previous LPL's either?

Painting almost an entire Blood Bowl team felt good - plus the guys I'd painted the previous year were getting a little lonely! It was also nice to get some Dr Who stuff done as well - its been a while!

Hopefully I helped spread the word about Goblinaid a little with the mini-Kev and his fantastic Snorklings from Foundry.

Finally finishing off all the minis for the Kremlo scenario was great too and in fact I managed to get a few Lustrian themed entries in to keep my long running Magnificent Sven project ticking over.

Finally, although I don't really enter the LPL with any realistic hopes of getting to the number 1 slot (did you see the Battle Royale between the top tier guys - stunning stuff!), I was very pleased to come in the top half of the rankings and a few places higher than I did last year - must be making progress!

  1. Hey Thantsants, these all look amazing!! You should be very proud of your accomplishment and simply enjoy the competition aspect as a stimulus to producing such stunning work! Who cares about rankings! Although I would easily give you first-place! Nicely done.

    1. Yep - I don't really pay much mind to the rankings. Still nice to place higher than last year though! :)

Definitely the best thing about the LPL is the massive incentive to get large amounts of minis painted in a short time - great fun seeing all the other fantastic creativity on display too!

  2. All I can say is don't come around here trying to get a game with your bloodbowl tortoise pikemen - everyone knows goblins and slann would never be in the same army and frankly, there are no tardis' in the warhammer world, so it would never work anyway!

    Preposterous!

Only those oldhammer idiots would even consider something like that... good luck with them!

On a related note - I am green with envy at your astonishing output! Well done. I'm hoping to have a go at it next year ;)

    1. Thanks Gaj - it'd be great to see another Oldhammerer infiltrating the LPL next year. There was me, Blue and Pil this year - not to mention Admiral Benbow (the guy who made those amazing Dinosaurs with Howdahs that were shown in WD100).

Which reminds me - what was that game that was advertised in the old WD's that let you creat armies out of all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations of old/modern/fantasy and scifi? Might have been an RPG come to think of it?

  3. Yep, No matter the rules, when you end up with such beauties I say you win!
I totally agree with you in that the most important is to progress yourself in the process.

    Thumbs up

    1. Thanks Asslessman - it sure is a nice feeling putting them all together.

Cranking out half decent paint jobs in a small time frame is a good skill to develop!

  5. Fantastic effort for the LPL, if you're not paying much heed to the rankings at least you can rely on positive feedback being a good sign. Any tournament that turns you away doesn't deserve to have it's tables graced by your lovely minis!

    1. Ta muchly Paul - good feedback is always nice to get. Getting lots of minis painted is even better!

It'd certainly be a mad game combining that lot!

  6. You certainly had a great run this year my man...all of high quality and well photographed. The tortoise was the real highlight for me..."inventive, and well executed...like I've said before your painting of natural subjects....turtles, crabs scorpions etc is exceptional and something that I will try to blatantly plagiarize when I can!

Excellent work all around and thanks for the group shot....quite a motley Crüe!

    1. Thanks Blue - very kind of you to say.

I think my haul of bonus points helped out a little there! Its good to encourage folks to follow a theme but sometimes I think they can skew the rankings a little. I think I got off fairly lightly in the my pairings too!

Those were some seriously impressive entries from you again this year - especially the Averlanders. Congrats on sticking the course too what with your little mishap and all!
