Would this be Tournament legal...?

So the dust settles on another LPL - season 7 this time and the third year I have entered. It certainly proved to be a productive one and I definitely think I upped my game in terms of the volume of minis I painted up - often exceeding the minimum of five required to make up a team. I was dogged with photography problems in the earlier rounds as the ancient 2 megapixel camera I was using, in place of the nice new one we bought and promptly left at my parent's house, struggled to deliver the crisp detail I was after.

It was the first time I'd ever included a large monster like the Tortoise tanks and its Goblin crew. Not sure whether or not I'd painted cavalry for previous LPL's either?

Painting almost an entire Blood Bowl team felt good - plus the guys I'd painted the previous year were getting a little lonely! It was also nice to get some Dr Who stuff done as well - its been a while!

Hopefully I helped spread the word about Goblinaid a little with the mini-Kev and his fantastic Snorklings from Foundry.

Finally finishing off all the minis for the Kremlo scenario was great too and in fact I managed to get a few Lustrian themed entries in to keep my long running Magnificent Sven project ticking over.

Finally, although I don't really enter the LPL with any realistic hopes of getting to the number 1 slot (did you see the Battle Royale between the top tier guys - stunning stuff!), I was very pleased to come in the top half of the rankings and a few places higher than I did last year - must be making progress!

To LPL or not to LPL...

That is the question!

So its that time of year again where the good folk over on the LAF get their annual painting competition, the Lead Painters League, going again. Big thanks to LAF'er, Overlord for stepping in to the breach as an organiser this year - its a big job!

Entry is limited to 50 competitors again this year, mainly because of the logistics of handling that many submissions each week. I guess it'll be a first come, first served basis again so fingers crossed...

Its a great competition with the LAF's finest on show each year - the range of creativity and painting excellence always amazes me. Have a look at previous year's entries and you'll see what I mean! Oh and you may get to see other Oldhammer stalwarts like Blue in VT and Phreedh who are also renowned LPL veterans.

Anyway, back to my question - do I enter or not? The pros are clear - tons of painted minis at the end of the 10 weeks of the competition, along with the sense of achievement that would bring and the enjoyment of being part of such a great competition.

Here's what I got done last year -

As you can see - not a bad way of getting going with my Lustria project, whilst dabbling with a few other scales and painting some minis I'd been itching to for ages!

And the year before...

The cons are slight in comparison - brushes worn threadbare through overuse, insomnia as entry deadlines loom and the sheer relentless pace of ensuring a team of at least five minis (and sometimes two teams to qualify for bonus points!) is ready each week.

Hmmm I think I may have talked myself into it!

Why I need a new set of brushes...

... apart from the fact that I should probably take better care of them -

In my defense, they did take a bit of a beating over the ten weeks of the LPL.

A bit late in the day for the old LPL" look what I did" shot, but I have my suspicions that my 2 year daughter has "tidied" my camera up somewhere - been looking for it for a couple of weeks now. As the poor old minis have been sat on the table, posed and ready to go for a similar amount of time, I felt I owed it to them to sort it out. Finally got round to borrowing a camera from work - hence the pics in this and the last post I've put up.

Hopefully I might find it in the next few days as I have a week off work and plan to photograph and post the final installment of Orc's Drift...
