The Clawbeast, whose peace you have disturbed, slashes at you with its deadly talons!
Another memorable adversary from Creature of Havoc and quite a formidable one for its goofy looks with Skill 9 and Stamina 14! These hirsute horrors were a fun addition to Zharradan Marr's Legions and in the end proved a lot less painful to convert and paint than they were for the poor Hill goblins they faced in battle!
You may remember some time ago that I shared a WIP post about these strange creatures, which detailed the trials and tribulations I went through to find a suitable miniature to base the conversion on. Here's the post in question for those of you wanting to jog your memory.
I picked up some rather good tips for painting large areas of fur from Soarastro and his excellent painting videos. I'd been watching a lot of his Imperial Assault videos as I was given the game as a birthday present and have been meaning to get some paint on the figures that came with it. His Wookie tutorial was very useful, especially in terms of getting the shading in with the base coat rather than just relying on uniform ink washed - which is what I tended to do in the past, resulting in a samey result over the entirety of the miniature. Might have to try the technique out on some actual Wookies some time!
So all in all I was really happy how they turned out considering that they threatened to be one of the more problematical elements in the army!
great conversions.they look seamless. although....how do they itch their arse? haha
ReplyDeleteWith great care or perhaps there is a very unlucky tree somewhere...
DeleteGreat looking blogs you've got there - now following!
Cool... I remember the original post. Great fun converting and sourcing figures to match the beasties in the books. I've been skimming through some old White Dwarfs and there are some great monsters in Fiend Factory crying out to be made into figures.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good memory sir! I'll have to see if I have any White Dwarfs old enough - sounds like a good way to pass the time! I should probably have a look out for that Fiend Folio you've mentioned a few times.
Deletenice!
ReplyDeleteCheers Leadmess!
DeleteGreat bit of kit bashing- they look very natural. Well... as natural as four-armed simians with blades for hands can look if you know what I mean...
ReplyDeleteWhat could be more normal - we got sharks and lions, Titan got Clawbeasts!
Delete"Some species have evolved, in isolation in the wild, in to savage carnivorous killing machines. Lions and sharks are prime examples; less common are the Gretch of the Southern deserts and the Clawbeasts of the North." Out of the Pit.
Aren't those White Apes from John Carter of Mars?
ReplyDeleteGreat conversions and painting!
I guess they do bear a resemblance! I did look at Parroom Station's version of the White Ape as a possible base miniature - their Many Armed Mape - but unfortunately their website seems to have disappeared.
DeleteDid you know these ones from Bronze Age Miniatures? https://cdn10.bigcommerce.com/s-yneoa/products/235/images/398/32DEMA2__57234.1461817700.500.659.jpg?c=2
DeleteWow - hadn't seen them before! Impressive minis and a lovely range. Always had a soft spot for Burrough's Martian stuff!
DeleteOh my goodness, these look amazing! Great conversion work.
ReplyDeleteCheers Michael - thank goodness they worked out OK in the end!
